Focus Students’ Difficulties What we can do
Case Study

1. Real world application of economics.

2. Difficult to tackle due to very open content.

3. Most students not adequately prepared content wise, nor have skills highly developed neither skills (even graduate bankers struggle to put theory to practice) nor the maturity.

4. Many students either do not keep abreast of international news nor take an interested in them.

1. Building confidence by familiarizing student with the format, style, keywords, foundational and repeated themes.

2. How to complete case study exam question with time to spare.

3.Identifying wrong practices or bad habits commonly exhibited by students.

Essay

1. Requires a high level of explanation and discursive skills which many students are still struggling or are still developing at the JC level.

2. Students wrongly think that knowing the content of a topic is sufficient to do well in exams. This is overly simplistic and students pay a price for this.

3. Think that GP style answering of essays applies. Sadly students find this is not so in a disastrous way.

4. Do not understand that there is a format and style to answering essays which must be maintained when necessary.

1. Help students develop the right language in terminology and phraseology in explaining concepts.

2. Know that evaluation involves theses and anti-theses. (or advantage/disadvantages)

3.Unravel confusion over synthesis and when one is needed in a 15 point essay.

4.Identity and tackle core essays that are foundational in all A level economics exams.
