Focus Students’ Difficulties What we can do
Internal Asessments (IAs)
1. Real world application of economics theory made hard by students’ lack of understanding of the real world.

2. Difficulty of looking for appropriate articles which contain elements of miro and marco economic theory.

3. Submitting and meeting dateline for IA drafts.

1. Help students select appropriate articles which contain sufficient economics elements to form an IA article of worth.

2. Direct and train students in identifying the important points in articles and help them to build up these points into an academic piece of work.

3. Help students to complete the necessary draft as well as finalise the IA to help build the IA portfolio for marking.

Economics EE
1. Not familiar with most of the economic topics as EE topic is decided in the early part of the IB diploma study.

2. Some EE topics of worth like international trade , exchange rate, BOP, DD side and SS side policies only covered in 2nd year of IB study. But topic of EE decided in year 1 (year 6 in Acs Independent).

3. Many tutors EE supervisors are full time teachers and are not researchers nor have industries or public experience therefore guidance is limited in scope.

4. Proposals are difficult to submit as students are lost and probably never done proposal in their lives during year 1 of the diploma study.

5. EE is essential a mini qualitative research requiring primary data collection and interpretation which many candidates find extremely difficult.

1. We will sit down and help you to decide on a relevant econs EE topic so as to have your EE proposal approved. Our tutors EE proposal acceptance rate is in about 90%.

2. After approval of EE will plan out the format, theoretical framework, instrument of survey as well as the necessary linkages to substantiate your findings.

3. Will help the content layout as well as the necessary diagrams to include.

4. We will beef up your understanding of the theory upon which your findings will be based.

5. Help you see the limitations of your research.

6. Help you annotate your EE according to APA standards (as required by most academic bodies).

Data Response Questions
1. Real world application of economics.

2. Difficult to tackle due to very open content.

3. Most students not adequately prepared content wise, nor have skills highly developed neither skills (even graduate bankers struggle to put theory to practice) nor the maturity.

4. Many students either do not keep abreast of international news nor take an interested in them.

1. Building confidence by familiarizing student with the format, style, keywords, foundational and repeated themes.

2. How to complete case study exam question with time to spare.

3. Identifying wrong practices or bad habits commonly exhibited by students.

4. Develope ability to analyse any economic article on media or print like a true economist.

Essay
1. Requires a high level of explanation and discursive skills which many students are still struggling or are still developing at the JC level.

2. Students wrongly think that knowing the content of a topic is sufficient to do well in exams. This is overly simplistic and students pay a price for this.

3. Think that GP style answering of essays applies. Sadly students find this is not so in a disastrous way.

4. Do not understand that there is a format and style to answering essays which must be maintained when necessary.

1. Help students develop the right language in terminology and phraseology in explaining concepts.

2. Know that evaluation involves theses and anti-theses. (or advantage/disadvantages)

3. Unravel confusion over synthesis and when one is needed in a 15 point essay.

4. Identity and tackle core essays that are foundational in all A level economics exams.

Math Paper (HL only)
1. Generally not a major concern for students but the need to have an indepth knowledge of the topic (especially in demand supply production cost, market structure etc) sometimes may not be found in text book. 1. Will thoroughly prepare students for this module with lots of “relevant” IB type question pitched specifically for the IB.
Theory of Knowledge (TOK)
1. A requisite course for all IB students. Do the presentation and essay well and together with the EE you can will get your 3 points. 1. Help students to prepare and arrive at the KQ for the TOK Presentation as well as for the TOK essay.
